Planned attempts to deteriorate law and order situation underway: Jamaat

Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that there is a deliberate attempt to deteriorate the law and order situation in the country. He said that there are some weaknesses in intelligence and administration. He has tried to draw the attention of the chief advisor to identify these weaknesses. The government should tighten the administration and maintain coordination among themselves so that accurate information is available before any incident occurs.

Planned attempts to deteriorate law and order situation underway: Jamaat

Abdullah Mohammad Taher told reporters after a meeting with the chief advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the chief advisor’s residence Jamuna on Tuesday night. He said, “Chaos may arise around the elections. Therefore, the law and order forces must be made more effective and strengthened. An adequate environment must be created for the elections to be fair and impartial.” The Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer said, “Prevention is better than cure. That is, prevention is the best treatment. That is why the government should strengthen prevention. The chief advisor assured us that everyone, including the advisory council, will work together with a strong attitude. He sought our cooperation.’

Saying that there will be a program on the ground to suppress the conspiracy of fascism, Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, ‘Tomorrow (today, Wednesday) a program will be taken up by the students. Political parties will consider the situation and if necessary, organize programs on the ground. We are monitoring accordingly.’

He said that the current situation in the country was discussed in depth in the meeting with the chief advisor. Especially the tragic incident that took place at Milestone School and College on Monday has broken the heart of the nation and it has been said that proper cooperation and compensation should be given to the families of the children who died there and full medical treatment should be provided to the injured.

Jamaat-e-Islami believes that the decision to postpone the HSC and equivalent exams should have been announced earlier. Taher said that they will pay attention to that issue, but keeping that in mind, some evil circles have tried to create a chaotic environment.

Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, ‘Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to provide all-out support to the government and if a new government is elected through fair elections, it will be positive for the political stability of the country. We will stand by the government and provide all kinds of support, God willing.’

Noting that fears have been expressed from some quarters about delaying the elections by talking about reforms, the Jamaat leader said, ‘We think that such a conspiracy is not taking place. In this case, they can foil the conspiracy by accepting the reforms.’

‘If the defeated power wants to be rehabilitated, arrangements will be made’

Before the meeting with the chief advisor, Jamaat-e-Islami joined the 17th day of the second phase of the National Consensus Commission’s discussions with political parties on Tuesday afternoon. After the discussions, Abdullah Mohammad Taher told reporters that capitalizing on the sad situation, chaos occurred in front of Milestone College in the morning. Again, chaos occurred in front of the Secretariat. If the defeated and expelled forces want to return by capitalizing on this situation, then united action will be taken against them.

The Jamaat leader said, “We seek forgiveness for the souls of those who were martyred in the plane crash. We demand good treatment of the injured from the government. The families of those who were injured and killed will have demands, it is very natural. The entire nation is with them.”

In the discussion of the consensus commission, Jamaat-e-Islami has given its opinion not to make the party chief the prime minister. In this regard, Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, “We think that reforms are happening in Bangladesh now. We must also try to make the parties democratic in that way.”

Highlighting Jamaat’s position on the appointment of the chief advisor to the caretaker government, Abdullah Mohammad Taher said that the search committee will select the name of the chief advisor from a short list of names provided by the government, the opposition parties and third parties. However, if there is no consensus, everyone must be careful that no party can amass power by force of majority. The party has voted in favor of returning to the Thirteenth Amendment if consensus cannot be reached on the election of the Chief Advisor.
